The illustion of the Bells of Ireland

Frame:
Background size seen here is
150mm X 100mm or 6” X 4”

Punches Required

The illustion of the Bells of Ireland

The instructions for the Variegated Ivy are in Floral Punch Craft VI. Small and Medium Maple Leaf punches are needed.

To create a combined gift and card.

CARD :
Fold an A4 sheet of suitable cardboard in half, lengthwise. Do the same with matching paper for an insert. Place a narrow strip of double sided sticky tape on one side of the spine, do not adhere it inside the card at this time. Adhere the folded cardboard/card to the back of the frame with the fold on the right hand side (from the back). When convenient, write inside the insert, remove the sticky tape and place inside the card.
When looking from the back, the open card acts as the leg for the completed frame layout.

The background is from an old calendar with no copyright attached. The hills are created from 3 different shades of green paper. The shape of each hill is below. There are no measurements so the size of the frame can vary. The sides and baseline of each are straight for each section. The curve of the hills is the only contoured line.

Please note: Only a small amount of glue is required. Too much glue increases your time and effort .

Optional:

Cut the shapes of the 3 hills a tad wider than the background. When secured into position each will curve outwards slightly. To secure into position use a small folded strip of paper in the shape of a “V” between each hill with the point of the “V” dow

Background: Secure the scene in position with a touch of PVA glue or double sided sticky tape.

Construct the house, cut and secure each hill into position at two points.

The house is attached to the middleHill behind the front hill to allow the roof to be seen.

Cones: The illustion of the Bells of Ireland
Using the Square punch and pale green paper, punch approximately 44 squares.
The amount required will depend on the size of the flower for the frame.
Roll each into a cone and adhere.
Remove the excess.
Trim the top into a circle. Follow the diagram showing the cones.

Roll a Main Stem: 60mm or 2.5” in length using the same green paper as the cones above.

Instructions in Floral Punch Craft II, V and VI

Stamens from cream paper:
Your choice of two methods. In the coloured illustration I have used the second method.

First method: Trim the hand to 2 fingers and a point at the base line. Adhere one shape inside each cone.

Second method: The illustion of the Bells of Ireland

Punch one hand per 2 cones plus spares. For 44 cones, 22 hands plus 5 spares are needed.

Trim each hand as seen in the first 2 diagrams.

The last shows the thumb trimmed and glued to the top, between the fingers.

Trim the combined shape to a point.

With your tweezers curve the 2 fingers upwards (cream in diagram) and the thumb downwards (black in diagram).

Adhere one shape inside each cone. Use the fingers

Adhering the cones to the main stem: The illustion of the Bells of Ireland

A narrow, double thickness, flat stem is adhered to the outside of 30 cones.

The base of the stem is glued to the main stem .

The remaining cones are flattened at the point with the flattened section used as a stem. If required add a flat stem.

The cones are adhered around the main stem but not at the back. Leave this area free for adhering into position when the shape is completed.

Commence at the base and work your way up the stem.

Fill in any gaps with either the stemmed or flattened cones.

Follow the shape in the coloured illustration.

The second stem shown on the right in the coloured illustration has 5 cones only.

It adds balance to the layout.

Leaves: Punch 8 small Birch Leaves in a slightly darker green.

Adhere a flat, narrow stem to each leaf.

Glue the base of 4 stems together and adhere inside the top of the hollow main stem to complete the Bells of Ireland.

Adhere into position as seen in the framed layout.

Create the Variegated Ivy on 2 stems plus spare leaves. Take note of the dark green sections of the leaves near the Bells of Ireland. This enhances and identifies the flower.

Adhere the base ivy to cover the main stems at the bottom of the Bells of Ireland.

The second stem adds height above the flowers and crosses onto the frame.

The spare leaves are fill-ins and cover blank spaces.

3D Tree: The illustion of the Bells of Ireland

Punch 9 dark green Leone’s Tree shapes.

The first shape remains flat. This is the base.

Remove the trunk from the other shapes.

“A” shapes :
Fold 4 trees in half with firm pressure to the crease line.

“B” shapes:
Turn 3 of the remaining shapes over, fold in half with

firm pressure to the fold line.

One shape only remains.

Adhere the fold line of an “A” shape down the centre of the base tree shape.

Repeat the step above utilizing a “B” shape.

Repeat the two steps above until all 7 shapes have been used.

Note: If the shapes stand apart no further action is required.

If the shapes are too close together, fold a small strip of the same paper in half to make a “V”. Put glue on one side of the “V” and with the tweezers place between the offending shapes towards the base.

The last shape is cut in half, height wise, and on its cut edge, glued inside the previous shape.

Adhere the completed 3D tree into position on the front hill, right hand side.

Please note:
The 3D tree can have more or less shapes depending on the situation.
